Byzarium accepts original fiction in the fantasy, sci-fi and horror genres. For horror, we ask that there actually be a plot to your story, not just a lovingly described scene of death and destruction. Please do NOT send stories which include sex that does not contribute to the plot, extreme violence, and absolutely no scenes of graphic rape or child or animal abuse. We are open to any sort of fantasy -- slipstream, urban, historical, world-building -- but ask that sci-fi center around people more than technology. We like sci-fi and fantasy that feature strong female or gay characters. We are also interested in non-fiction articles on the writing process, fantasy world-building, etc.

Please follow our formatting instructions. We will only accept stories cut and pasted into the body of email messages. We regret to say that we will be forced to delete without opening any email containing attachments. No simultaneous submissions.

We are mainly interested in work from 500 to 5,000 words in length. We will pay $5 for stories up to 1,500 words in length, and $10 for all stories over that. Payment will be made through Paypal, so if you don't have an account now, we recommend signing up!

We buy First Worldwide Electronic Rights, and we require exclusive rights for six months. Unless the author requests otherwise, the story will then be archived AFTER those initial 6 months.

We do not need any art at this time.
